Bin locations

Bin locations are the places inside a warehouse where units are stored, such as a rack, a shelf or a bin. Each location has a short code, for example A-01-03, so staff know exactly where each unit sits.

Set up locations when a warehouse is organized into racks and shelves and you want to find units quickly, or to record where received units were put away.

Open a warehouse and select the Bin locations tab. It shows:

  • The list of locations with their Code, Name, status and the number of units each one holds.
  • Add location — adds a new location.
  • Edit and delete buttons on each location.

When the warehouse has no locations yet, the tab shows No locations yet.

  1. From the side menu, open Master data.
  2. Click Warehouses.
  3. Open the warehouse.
  4. Select the Bin locations tab.
  1. Click Add location.
  2. Enter the Code and, optionally, the Name.
  3. Click Save location.
  • Code — required, up to 50 characters, unique within the warehouse. It is saved in capital letters.
  • Name — optional description, for example Rack A, shelf 1.
  • Active — inactive locations stay on record but cannot be chosen when moving units. New locations are active.
  1. Click the edit button of the location.
  2. Change the Code, Name or Active switch.
  3. Click Save location.
  1. Click the delete button of the location.
  2. Confirm in the Delete location dialog.
  1. In the warehouse, select the Units tab.
  2. Tick the units you want to move. Only units that are available, under inspection or assigned can be selected.
  3. In Move to location, choose an active location, or No location to clear it.
  4. Click Move to location.

Adding, editing and deleting locations needs the Manage storage locations permission and Operate access to the warehouse.
